Tungle.me is a web-based meeting scheduling application that allows users to share their schedules. Users can choose to share their entire calendar or just whether or not they are free or busy at a certain time. The site syncs with calendars and contact lists from Microsoft Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple iCal and Entourage for Mac. Calendars can be shared across individual or company boundaries. The application allows users to propose multiple meeting times for others to choose from, and takes care of all of the back and forth messaging required to schedule a meeting via email.
When a meeting is booked, it is automatically added to the user’s calendar. Users can invite anyone to schedule a meeting – the person receiving the invitation does not have to be a Tungle user in order to use the site if they’ve received an invitation. The application prevents double booking and auto-adjusts for users in other time zones. Users can also get an RSS feed of their scheduling information from the Tungle site.Show more screenshots »
Montreal-based Tungle.me was launched in April 2008. Currently, Marc Gringas is CEO, Mark McLeod is CFO and Fang Yang is CTO. The site has undergone continuous growth since launch, and currently serves thousands of unique monthly visitors. The site has an Alexa page rank near the 200,000 mark.
Competition to Tungle comes from sites such as TimeBridge and Jiffle. TimeBridge offers a service very similar to Tungle, and has a larger userbase, with an Alexa page rank near the 100,000 mark. Jiffle is similar to Tungle, but syncs only with Outlook and Google Calendar. In addition, Jiffle offers integration with WebEx and the ability to share group calendars. The Jiffle site has a smaller userbase than Tungle, with an Alexa page rank below the 500,000 mark.
There is a minimum of links shown on each page, and the site is quite responsive. Page loads happen almost immediately, and the site is almost as fast as a dedicated desktop application. There is a top menu bar shown on all pages on the site. Options on the menu bar include Calendar (shows users a view of their Tungle calendar) and Management (manage the users schedule). The Management page has options for viewing proposed and scheduled meetings, scheduling a new meeting, and synching and sharing the users calendars. There is no advertising displayed on the Tungle site.
Registration to the Tungle site is free and is required to use the site for scheduling meetings and sharing calendars. The registration process asks for first and last name, email address, password and time zone. Validation of the email address is required to use the site.
Registration to the Tungle site is free and there is no premium membership offered to the Tungle site.
The Tungle site is recommended to people who schedule meetings frequently and do not have a personal assistant. The site greatly simplifies the process of scheduling a meeting, especially when several people are involved. It saves a good deal of time as well. Since calendars can be shared, the site is equally useful to companies to use as their scheduling application.
